10-channel sound installation + Ambisonics
Co-composed by Yu-chia Kuo, Ruthy Huang
Premiered – Taichung, Taiwan, 14 June 2023, National Museum of Nature and Science.

CAPTION

  • In this work, 10-channel speakers are placed at different corners of the exhibition space, not only to create varieties of sonic content for the specific areas but also to generate an entire soundscape that connects one area to the other, just like the space we inhabit.
  • To achieve this, I utilized ambisonic treatment to create an immersive sonic experience that enriches the visual imagery and installations of the exhibition.

Generative Music

  • Astronomical data, such as gravitational waves from orbiting stars, was transformed into sound parameters. This sonification process has become a fundamental element of this work, from pure noise and beautiful timbres, melodies, and harmonies, floating in this extradimensional sound space.

Voyage Golden Records

  • Selected tracks from the Golden Records, part of NASA’s Voyager Program in 1977, contain sounds and images representing Earth’s culture and history, are re-edited and combined with data and noise from astronomical events, creating a captivating soundscape that fills the entrance and exit aisles of the exhibition space.
