Immersi Topia

4VR sound installation + Electronics | 2023

13th Student-Organized Human-Computer Interaction Workshop
Premiered – Taipei, Taiwan, 13 August 2023, National Taiwan University

Program Note

As prominent in virtual reality, loading experience design in VR becomes more indispensable since it is arduous for users to remove their VR headsets and even venture into annoying lingering. To make the inevitable waits more bearable and pleasurable, we craft an immersive VR environment with designed visuals and soundscapes to enhance positive emotion, ultimately altering users' perception of loading time.

On the sonic part, this work simulates the human heartbeat rhythm to trigger real-time playback of tiny segments from a chosen soundtrack. Split the sound into small pieces, reconstruct the sonic fabric, and play at different speeds, volumes, and frequencies, among other parameters, resulting in intricate and dynamic auditory compositions to reshape users' perception of time.
